Svolgi i seguenti 15 esercizi sui verbi modali di obbligo e consiglio (must, have to, mustn't, don't have to, should, ought to, had better, need). Lavora con attenzione, leggi bene il contesto di ogni frase e, dove richiesto, motiva la scelta del modale. Scrivi le risposte sul quaderno o nello spazio dedicato.

  1. Tom is a soldier in the British Army. According to military rules, he ___ wear his uniform every day on duty. Choose the most appropriate modal.
  1. "You ___ touch that wire! It's extremely dangerous and you could get a serious electric shock." Which option expresses the strongest prohibition?
  1. The sentences "You mustn't bring your laptop" and "You don't have to bring your laptop" have the same meaning in English.
  1. The verb "must" has no past form of its own, so to talk about a past obligation we normally use "had to".

  7. Which sentence is grammatically correct in standard English?

  1. Translate into English, choosing the most suitable modal and explaining briefly why: "L'anno scorso ho dovuto studiare moltissimo per l'esame di latino."

  2. Your best friend tells you she is worried about an important interview tomorrow. Give her at least two pieces of advice in English using different modal verbs (for example should, ought to and had better).

  3. Write a short paragraph (about 80-100 words) describing the rules and recommendations in your school. Use at least one example of must, have to, mustn't, don't have to and should. Underline the modal verbs you use.

  4. Read the dialogue and rewrite it correcting ALL the mistakes related to modal verbs of obligation and advice. Anna: "I must to call my mother tonight." Luca: "You shoulds tell her about the trip." Anna: "Yes, but I don't must speak too long, it's expensive." Luca: "You had better to use a video call, it's free!"
